Laurel Goodman, 45, of rural Ness City, was killed while baling wheat when he was apparently caught and pulled into a baling machine, sheriff officials reported in Ness County.

The Area Mental Health Center offers a six session workshop titled Low Mood and Anger starting Monday June 16 in Garden City. Erland Crupper and Cheryl Nussbaum will conduct six weekly 2 hour sessions from 7 to 9 pm with a $30 registration and limited scholarships. The event drew 16 junior and 53 senior entries with awards announced by Ray Moore of Farmland Foods. Junior winner Roy Heitschmidt of Guymon claimed first, Barry Purdy of Garden City second, and Jerry Dechant with Joyce Dechant shared third. Senior winner Jack Johnson of Guymon took first, Tom Jones of Garden City second, and Lloyd Boone of Fukoka third. First prize earned 12 ribeye steaks, second prize 12 New York strip steaks, and third six ribeye steaks.
