MANHATTAN The impact of 4-H youth on national progress was stressed by Dr Harold BE Jones at the official opening of the annual 4-H Round-up on the Kansas State University campus June 5-9. He contrasted orderly youth leadership with other groups making news, noting 4-H members show respect for property and human dignity while remaining energetic and influential.
Ten Finney County 4-H delegates attended the state 4-H Roundup June 5 to 8 on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan. The Finney County clubs were represented by Janice Engler John Collins Leland McGraw Mary Dechant Leo Smith Diane Fansher Kathy York Patty Heinz Peggy Pitts and Wanda Largent.
Garden FFA placed third in the statewide safety awards contest by the Kansas Farm Bureau safety department. The award was given June 7 in Manhattan during the annual Vocational Agriculture teachers banquet. Two Garden City members will attend the National Safety Congress in Chicago as Farm Bureau guests. A district winner plaque was also awarded to Garden City along with other chapters. The Kansas Farm Bureau safety program rewards chapters for activities promoting farm, home, and highway safety through classroom work, meetings, exhibits, posters, literature, and publicity.
