Western Kansas flood aftermath and time zone dispute outlined
Western Kansas reports detail last weekends heavy rains across Hamilton, Kendall, and nearby towns with 3 to 6 inches, flash floods near Moscow, and highway closures on US 50 and Santa Fe tracks. Historical flood notes cite 1949 Arkansas River flooding and the 1965 flood at record levels. Editor Monte Canfield criticizes a proposed Department of Transportation time zone change affecting Kearny County while urging Citizens to act.

Time Is a Factor in Washington Tax Extension
AP report notes Senate Finance Committee member Sen. John J Williams says completing action on the 10 percent surtax extension by June 30 is unlikely. House delays, administration urging a race to the deadline, hearings planned, and possible spending ceiling and tax loophole measures could slow final action. Williams may attach a personal spending ceiling rider and press for closing tax loopholes.
