Democratic leaders in Kansas chide Gov. Sam Brownback for claiming credit on a five city highway tour highlighting 36 projects in the 10-year 8 billion transportation program. The plan costs the state over 1.8 billion and aims to create thousands of construction jobs while improving safety.
Dodge City band Ask Vinnie will headline the opening act for Survivor at Mosaic's August benefit concert. Mosaic executive director Debbie Reynolds announced the result of the fourth annual Battle of the Bands held at the Clarion Inn. Judges and a crowded audience split votes in a very close finish.
GCTelegram.com announced Survivor's 1982 hit Eye of the Tiger blasting from stage speakers as Ask Winnie fans cheered for the band that won Saturday's Battle of the Bands. Mosaic official Brian Schwindt noted the vote was very close with ballots counted twice amid indoor venue storms.
An Associated Press review finds state budgets ravaged by declining tax revenue and lean coffers across 50 states. Cumulative revenue for the coming year falls about 5 percent from 2007-08, with New Jersey Nevada Oregon Illinois and Louisiana posting deficits over 20 percent of general funds. Even as some recovery appears, pension and retiree health care costs loom, while one time stimulus windfalls vanish and rainy day funds remain depleted. Georgia shows a revenue uptick but fiscal caution remains. AP will continue updates through the year.
Garden City High School appoints Addison Morgan, a 2005 GCHS alumnus, to head the celebrated Community Improvement Program. Morgan succeeds school resource officer Clint Brock and pledges readiness to guide the program into the new school year.
Neighbors report the high school gains a second year officer, Morgan, who praises familiarity with the campus and notes big shoes left by predecessor Brock. Morgan credits past collaboration with Brock for knowledge of CIP and hints at program expansion ideas, with student cooperation key to success.
