Gas Plant Returns to Farmland in Kansas-Nebraska area

The Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Extraction plant west of Deerfield returns to farmland after two 1965 disasters. A tornado June 3 damaged units and a July 19 fire and explosions destroyed the heart of the plant, ending operations. Eight workers were on site, and the facility was never reopened. The site was later sold to farmer Denzel Dyer, with only the old superintendent’s house and a garage remaining as remnants. The auxiliary station nearby continues to operate, with minimal signs of the plant remaining.
