Ammo Dumps Blow Four Die Near Santo Domingo

Explosions rocked military ammunition dumps across the Ozama River from Santo Domingo overnight. Four people were killed and 112 wounded as flames hampered fire crews, troops, and police from approaching the dumps. Government official Donald Reid Cabral said three to five dumps at the 27th of February barracks were destroyed while investigators probe the cause. An informal report suggested a fire in a powder magazine ignited the blasts. Residents heard carbine shots before the first explosion.
