Kennedy urges myth to give way for economy boost at Yale

President Kennedy in a Yale commencement speech urged critics and business to discard worn out slogans and unite with government to strengthen the economy. He disputed claims that deficits always cause inflation and warned that government must watch economic health while business and labor meet public responsibilities. Kennedy said only a partnership of government with all sectors can push economic progress, noting past Republican administrations failed to prevent recession without solid confidence in the economy. He joked about becoming a Yale man, then emphasized that partisan wrangling and nostalgia do not solve today’s problems.
