Clowning clan gathers for Beef Empire Days parade
About 20 descendants of Frank Reed Sr. from Garden City and beyond meet annually to clown in the Beef Empire Days parade. The mostly first cousins and relatives travel from California to New Mexico and Colorado to renew ties, perform in makeup, and direct traffic, sharing a family reunion with a lingering sense of identity behind the clown masks.
