Road Work Pacts Awarded In Kansas Southwest District

Man Injured in Hay Mill Mishap at Local Co op

David C. Bailey, 2154 W. Kansas, suffered possible neck injury after two bales of alfalfa hay slid from a truck and struck him at Garden City Co op hay mill Tuesday afternoon. He remains in satisfactory condition at St. Catherine Hospital. Bailey had started work last week.

Lake Cleanup Day At Lake McKinney After Tornado

Lake Cleanup Day scheduled Sunday for the Lake McKinney dock area follows tornado damage. Volunteers report at 9 a.m. CST with chainsaws and rakes to clear debris. Woman Suffers Mishap Injuries in County Collision

Mrs Jovita Garcia 48 Holcomb admitted to St Catherine Hospital after a two car crash at a county road intersection 4 miles north and 1 mile west of Garden City Tuesday. Her husband Pedro 61, Raymond Schweer 48 of Garden City and Lydia Schweer 48 received treatment and were released. Raymond and two year old Vern Schweer were uninjured. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

The first car load of Kansas wheat arrived in Kansas City from Hartner. It graded one heavy yellow hard tough and tested 63 pounds 13.8 moisture and 0 percent protein. Standard Milling Co bought it at 1.55 off the floor. The U S Army notes Ferdinand Zeppelin made his first balloon ascent in 1863 at Fort Snelling Minnesota.

New Building Planned Here in Garden City

A new division materials laboratory and six stall maintenance garage are planned south of the division shop along US 50 in Garden City. Bids are being accepted by the Purchasing Director in Topeka with bids opened at 2 p.m. on June 15, 1965. John Hineman, highway commissioner of Dighton, announced the project. The structure will replace the 1933 tin building and follow standard state architect plans.

Don Dale Receives Air Force Commission at KU

Donald Dale of Warner Terrace was commissioned as second lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve during KU graduation exercises. About 60 KU seniors were commissioned across the Air Force, Army, and Navy, with 55 ROTC members commissioned at KU in the past year. Pimlico’s daily double payoff reached 5932.20 when longshots won the first two races on December 1, 1955.

Garden City youth vie in Sunflower Boys State nominations

Jed Gardiner of Garden City heads for printer on the Nationalist Party ticket at Sunflower Boys State staged at the University of Kansas campus. Other area candidates include Charles Reed for governor on the Federalist ticket Dave Pfannenstiel for Secretary of State Steve Brown and Larry Spikes for Treasurer. The 9th annual government in action session is backed by the American Legion and draws 1,008 junior boys. The mock primary trimmed many candidates Tuesday, with general election slated for this afternoon and inaugural ceremonies planned tonight.
