Holcomb debates fire coverage plan with Garden City brigade
Holcomb weighs outsourcing with Garden City Fire Department after failing to recruit 10 volunteers as required by city ordinance. Officials propose two GCFD firefighters in Holcomb 12 hours daily under a yearly contract costing about 47148 for salaries and admin work, while volunteers remain possible but not primary responders. GCFD handled 44 Holcomb Sherlock Township calls in 2004. Garden City 455 calls, and 159 in Garden City township. Former volunteers urged hiring a full time fire chief, a notion dismissed for lack of funds.
