Man dies after head-on crash and self-inflicted wound
Garden City police continue investigating a Monday afternoon head-on collision on Kansas Avenue. Michael Hunter 28 of Garden City crossed the center line in a white GMC Jimmy, hitting Idalis Rodriguez 40 in a Ford Windstar. Hunter later shot himself in the car and died at St. Catherine Hospital. Rodriguez was treated on site with no injuries. Rodriguez called her boyfriend Luis Monterosa after the crash. he described her as scared and arrived at the scene.

Board OKs changes in school boundaries
USC 457's Board of Education approved the first boundary change since 1997-98 and debated which board should fill a vacancy after a resignation. The 5-0 vote delineated Florence Wilson Elementary attendance, including a panhandle area south of Mary Street bounded by North Campus Drive and US 83 bypass, with boundaries near US 50 bypass and Third Street. At a April 28 public hearing the GCTOmin Lecu suspended the option chosen to address concerns. Board member Jean Clifford praised plans ensuring students attend schools near home. The new attendance zones will take effect as classes begin at the new 92.5 million Garfield Unified high school in fall 2012, reclassifying Garfield Elementary as Early Childhood Center Abe Hubert Middle to Abe Hubert Elementary, and the current high school to Horace J. Good Middle School with a 900 capacity.
