Hearing Delayed in Garden City Murder Case
Jose Delacruz-Flores, 65, faces first degree murder charges for the July 15 killing of Irma Davalos-Garcia and attempted first degree murder for shooting at a friend. The arraignment was postponed to 11:30 a.m. July 2 as plea negotiations continue and defense time is granted for further review.

Ex-officer waives first court appearance in Garden City case
Jesse Pantoja a 24 year old former Garden City police officer waived his first court appearance and will be released on a 3000 dollar bond. He faces criminal restraint and battery charges from four alleged incidents in April involving his girlfriend and two others. A hearing was set for June 28 and a no contact order remains in place. Pantoja resigned April 25 after prior domestic battery diversion in another county. He had worked for the GCPD since November 2004.

Fire crews quell smoke smell at downtown clothing store
Police briefs report firefighters responding to a downtown Perciosa clothing store at 12 15 pm after employees smelled smoke. Three fire trucks arrived and by 12 30 pm the team found an overheated ballast in a fluorescent light causing the odor and shut the device off advising an electrician.
