Revenues surge in May lift Kansas school funding hopes
Kansas collected 499.2 million in May, 46 million above the 453.4 million forecast, boosting lawmakers’ plans for a three year school aid package. Since July 2005 revenues ran 48 million ahead of April forecasts, with May tax receipts driven by stronger personal and corporate income collections. Officials say the gains ease budget shortfall fears through 2008 and support continued fiscal optimism.
