House leaders aimed to pass a funding bill during sine die but Senate Republicans blocked action as Brownback and leaders met without a plan. Senate Vice President Jeff King predicts a possible special session to avert school closures.
Republicans vent frustration as the court threatens to close Kansas schools over compliance. Rep Scott Schwab laments dancing for the court for 14 years and says nothing will please them. Senate Leader Bruce floated defiance while some caucus members pressed for action. Governor Brownback’s office offered no clear stance on a special session.
Warren, a Finney County Sheriff Patrol captain, recalls childhood ride alongs with his father in 1974 that sparked his goal to become a police officer. After high school and service as an air force aircraft mechanic, he began in the county jail, then the patrol division, and rose to captain over 28 years with strong ties to family and Pierceville roots.
