Church volunteers aid Katrina tearing Louisiana rescue effort
Trinity Lutheran sent a 13 member group from Kansas to Camp Hope in Slidell Louisiana to repair homes and clear debris after Katrina. They stayed in tents, used a donated 25 passenger bus, and paid 200 each to cover travel and camp costs. The trip followed a January effort after Hurricane Ivan and a new group is planned for January 1 2007.

Wheat yields vary widely amid drought in Scott County
Farmers report harvest breaks with 15 to 20 bushels per acre, while others expect 0 to 60 bushels per acre amid drought. Reed notes profits depend on a strong mile crop. Steve Kite of Scott County Co-op cites 20 bushels per acre as optimistic in some areas. A recent 5 to 6 inch rainfall aided corn and Milo prep but did not boost wheat. Mark Lawrance says isolated showers offered some planting aid east of Garden City.
