Propane torch blamed for Sigma Chi fire in Manhattan
A Manhattan fire caused 350000 dollars in damage at the Sigma Chi fraternity house. Fire officials ruled the blaze an accident, saying a workman peeling paint with a propane torch overheated wood above the main entrance, smoldering for about two hours before bursting into flames. The three story building, unoccupied, houses up to 70 residents.
