DES Detection Rate Rises in Beef Livers
Washington AP reports DES tainted beef livers rose in Q1 1975 before a new U S livestock certification system. Nine of 565 livers tested contained DES about 1.6 percent, compared with nine of over 3,000 in all of 1974 at 0.3 percent. A 1973 ban had been overturned in 1974. since March 16 producers must certify no DES exposure 14 days before slaughter.
