Wilson Joins Staff At Phillips White

Extradition sought in deputy slaying at Bogalusa

State officials seek extradition of Ernest Ray McElveen 41 of Bogalusa for the murder of Negro deputy sheriff O Neal Moore. Assets of Private Pension Funds Jump

The SEC report shows private pension funds grew by 5.4 billion to 51.9 billion in assets last year while payments to beneficiaries totaled 1.7 billion. At current market value the funds stood at 63.4 billion, covering corporate employees and many administered by unions. The annual SEC release was issued Thursday night.

Garner Stroud Is Selected As GOP Executive Secretary

TOPEKA AP Garner Stroud of Wichita will replace Hart Workman as executive secretary of the state Republican Central Committee on July 1, the state chairman Oliver Hughes confirmed. Workman praised for long service and counsel while speculation had grown he would be replaced after Gov William Avery became party head. Stroud, a former teacher and oil man, had been a GOF staff member for about three months. Workman has held multiple state posts since the 1930s.

Oldest Newton Resident Dies at 102

Newton Kansas AP reports Azilda LaGree aged 102, Newton’s oldest resident, died Thursday. She moved from Illinois at 12 and lived most of her life in the Newton area. Services set for Saturday. Survived by two daughters and two sons, nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Husband William LaGree Sr. died in 1933.
