Congress weighs ending the marriage penalty in tax law
Washington AP reports Congress is poised to revise the 1969 tax rules that penalize couples with two earners. The penalty has driven some to divorce or cohabit to reduce taxes, with estimates showing up to 15 million affected. Lawmakers, including Sen. Mathias and Rep. Fenwick, seek a fair fix without shifting relief to one group.
