Spinal stenosis accounts for about a third of low back pain. Narrowing of the spinal canal presses on the spinal cord and nerves causing pain that worsens when standing and improves with sitting. Aging, bone spurs, ligament thickening, and disc degeneration contribute. Non surgical relief includes physical therapy anti inflammatory drugs and epidural cortisone injections. When these fail surgery may be indicated.
