Animal control officers tracked a three foot bull snake inside the city near the Holiday Inn. They initially feared a prairie rattler but confirmed it is bull snake. They plan to relocate it after placing it in an aquarium until they release it later.
A witness for Western Resources Inc. disputed staff plans to cut rates, arguing such a move defies a federal ruling. Economic expert H Edwin Overcast testified during the 11th day of hearings on Western's request to raise rates by 150 million dollars, criticizing the staff method that blended KPL and KGE costs and noting the FERC decision against equalizing those costs.

A Friday morning fire in a west side trailer at 2224 W Kansas Ave No 3 killed 20 year old Gladys Sotelo and three of her children plus her 4 year old brother. Cause is undetermined though officials call it accidental. Victims were David Magana 5 Jesus Magana 2 Ricardo Bararragan 4. Lidia Sotelo the mother lost her home and belongings valued at 2000. Red Cross aiding funeral costs housing clothing and counseling for the mother who will remain with relatives.
