June is ideal for pruning evergreens like pines and cedars to keep a compact shape. Prune when new needles are about half the length of last year’s growth, mid to late June in Kansas, with timing varying by region. Small wounds heal quickly and large cuts over one inch should be painted with tree wound dressing purchased at garden centers.
