Rural faithful struggle to define what makes a vital church
Rural churches face dwindling congregations and limited funds as they seek strategies to survive. In Big Isaac West Virginia the United Methodist circuit pools four churches to share two part time pastors while preserving community life and tradition. Leaders cite yoking churches and hiring part time pastors as common fixes across denominations, with Duke Divinity School promoting rural ministry to attract new applicants.

Affirmation supports gay Mormon members in Salt Lake City
Connell O'Donovan recalled coming out in 1985 and leaving the LDS Church after seeking guidance from a seminary teacher. At Affirmation's 30th anniversary in Salt Lake City, O'Donovan spoke as a former member, noting the group's role for GLBT Mormons. Affirmation operates independently of the church with chapters globally, aiding those who struggle with church teachings on sexuality.
