The Kansas Corporation Commission denied Derby Oil Co. a petition for rehearing after an order closing 40 oil fields supplying Derby. Derby, part of Colorado Oil and Gas Corp., claimed improper representation and that the order exceeded the hearing scope. The commission called Derby’s offered price too low and cited economic waste. Derby plans an appeal to state courts.
F W Bus Boyd Jr, editor of the Jewell County Record at Mankato, was elected head of the Kansas State University Alumni Association for the coming year. A 1984 industrial journalism graduate, he is the second family member to serve as president, following his mother Mamie Boyd Martin and listing other current officers from White, Lauire A Tegen, Goodland, George H Weckel, Wichita, John Frazier, Topeka, and Mrs. Iga Ga gx ies, Russell.
Washington AP reports dozens of expense bills by House members have been altered or amended in recent years. Receipts supporting claims were modified to suggest different purposes, with investigations centered on committees overseeing others. The Royal Hawaiian Hotel bill involving Rep. Oren Harris is cited as an example, and Harris denies approving bar charges. Rep. Omar Burleson holds ultimate responsibility for expense account supervision.
