Independent minyans reshape modern Jewish worship in America
In Cambridge and other urban areas independent minyanim gather worshippers for egalitarian, traditional Hebrew prayer without rabbinic sanction. Led by women, with a translucent mechitzah, these unaffiliated groups number about 70 nationwide, drawing devout, educated Jews seeking community beyond mainstream Orthodoxy.
