Local Legion Auxiliary selects Shannon McNeill for Sunflower Girls State
Shannon McNeill of Garden City was chosen by the local American Legion Auxiliary to attend the 66th Sunflower Girls State at the University of Kansas June 1 to 6. About 465 high school juniors formed a simulated government, voting, nominating, campaigning, and speaking. Gov Kathleen Sebelius and Sec. Ron Thornburgh spoke. LaVeta Miller attended as department president. Holcomb’s Lisa Runnebaum made Bethany College spring 2008 Academic Dean's Honor Roll. Creighton University lists two area students on the spring 2008 Dean's List.

Kayla Salazar a Ingalls High School graduate has been chosen as a student ambassador for Dodge City Community College for 2008 09. Ambassadors greet campus guests and liaise with the public while Salazar’s high school activities included basketball volleyball track softball dance team SKA Y Educational Talent Search vocal music and girls ensemble. She majors in business at DCCC and is the daughter of Salvador and Melinda Salazar.
