County eyes cutting road crew to save costs
County commissioners urged exploring merging maintenance sections to cut expenses. Ellermann predicts saving about 140000 by reducing from eleven to nine section operators and two graders, risking longer response times and rougher roads but preserving funds for capital projects. Blackwell, a section operator, notes longer drives and heavier workload but remains hopeful for the plan’s fiscal benefits.

GCCC seeks $1.4 million gift drive for campus expansion
The five year program aims to raise about 1.4 million to unlock roughly 860000 in tax credits for contributors. Funds would combine with a federal Title V grant, the Erdene Corley Trust, and about 1.6 million from the general fund to support a 4.75 million renovation at the Penka and Warren House buildings. Works include lab refurbishments and a new physical therapy assistant wing. Bob and Barb Larson, both GCCC staff, also contributed undisclosed sums.

Moran weighs Senate bid as cash stash grows
Moran, a six term congressman, has not stated plans to run for Senate in 2010 while his campaign shows strong fundraising. He reported 2.1 million cash on hand, far ahead of Democrat James Bordonaro who has only 70 dollars, negative balance and 1500 debt. Political scientist Joe Aistrup says the money signals a high ambition and could deter other 2010 bidders.
