Garden City USD 457 cuts mill levy with budget plan
Garden City USD 457's 2016-17 budget proposal keeps the overall mill levy at 48.8 and lowers the levy by 3.16 mills from the prior year. The plan totals 96.4 million dollars, with 20 mills for the general fund and 15.21 mills for local option, plus 8 mills for capital outlay and 5.59 mills for bond and interest. State aid increases reduce the need to raise the levy, aided by a legislative boost and a Kansas Supreme Court funding ruling. District Finance Officer KJ Knoll notes bond refinancing saves about .65 mills, with state aid totaling 791,590 dollars for 2016-17.
