US says training in Iran linked to better rocket attack aim
Lt Gen Ray Odierno reported a significant improvement in the accuracy of rockets and mortars aimed at the Green Zone, tied to training in Iran. He noted cautious optimism over declining American troop casualties in July as new forces push into militant strongholds. Seven lines of violence followed, including two suicide bombings in Baghdad that killed at least 50 celebrating Iraqis after a soccer semifinal, and a car bombing near an Iraqi army checkpoint killing at least 20. The blasts targeted mixed Sunni, Shiite, and Christian areas, with officials blaming terrorists and Sunni extremists seeking to disrupt unity.
