Western Regulators Cut Big Utility Rates in Kansas
Kansas regulators cut Western Resources Inc rates, reducing company revenue by about 22.7 million for the year. KPL customers in central and northeast Kansas face a 3.3 percent rise, while KGE customers in southeast Kansas see a 6.6 percent cut. KPL will pay 18.5 million more yearly, KGE 41.2 million less. The decision, amid Western's failed merger with PNM, is framed as fair for consumers though impacts vary by region and future rate determinations remain.
