Wildfire debris and mudslides invade scrubbed lands in Durango
In La Plata County heavy rains on burned ground from a 70,000 acre wildfire triggered mudslides that swept vehicles from roads and carried ash, mud, trees and boulders across driveways. Six people were rescued from vehicles, a four person family from their home, and more than 1,000 people fled as ten structures burned or threatened. The response includes a national elite firefighting team led by Paxon. Large sequoia groves near Johnsondale and Ponderosa noted with hundreds of trees aged 500 to 1,500 years.
