Sally Cauble, challenger to incumbent Connie Morris, emphasizes key issues for the 41 western Kansas counties in the Fifth District. Cauble will face Morris in the August 1 primary for the State Board of Education after traveling about 30,000 miles through the area.
Liberal challenger Sally Cauble age 55 with Republican ties and strong local board experience faces incumbent Connie Morris 45 a teacher and longtime District 5 representative. Cauble lists degrees and eight years on Lib eral USD 480 board while Morris pushes education goals tied to state obscenity law changes and charter school appeal procedures.
Eighteen Scott County youngsters, all winners and runners up in their age divisions, vied in a Scott County Fair pedal tractor pull. Emily Glenn, 5, won the 5 year old division after sweeping the 3 and 4 year old divisions previously. Marissa Morris, 10, sought a trip to the state fair and finished strong after three years in the event, aiming to go the farthest. Weights were adjusted by age to keep it fair and trophies topped by golden tractors capped the prizes.
Garden City residents are invited to a premeeting from 11 to 11 45 a.m. and a regular session at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The gatherings occur at the City Administration Building located at 301 N Eighth St.
