Kansans Push Plan to Cut, Cap and Balance
U S Representative Tim Huelskamp says the Cut Cap and Balance bill is the only serious plan to address both federal spending and structural reform as the House passes the measure 234 to 190. The package would cut next year’s spending by 100 billion, cap future spending to GDP, and add a balanced budget amendment, with Social Security Medicare and veterans benefits exempt. If Senate passage occurs, Obama threatens a veto. Kansas Republicans in Congress back the plan, arguing for immediate spending cuts and a long term strategy while CBO warns of economic impact. Huelskamp and Kevin Yoder pressed Obama to submit a detailed proposal, after delivering a White House letter.
