Turtle races thrill crowds at Kearny County Fair
More than 50 turtles entered the event sponsored by Chantilly 4-H in Lakin with heats leading to a championship. Twelve year old Lili Burch won with her unnamed turtle as fairgoers, including families from Sunflower and New Jersey connections, watched. Winners advance, and unclaimed turtles were released back to the wild as the fair runs through Thursday.

Big Pool Water Conservation Improves Circulation
At Big Pool staff blamed poor water circulation in the wet well for wasted water via the pool outlet into Finnup Park. Two butterfly valves were added to throttle entry, improving flow to the gutter system and reducing discharge. Spring repairs included sealing cracks updating outlets and adding a vault cover. Chlorine use dropped from 14 tubs to about 2 daily, showing water saving measures work. Commissioners welcomed the improvement noting the investment is paying off.
