Former GC officer found dead in Wichita home
A former eight year Garden City Police Department veteran, 35 year old Eric Carpenter, was found dead in his Wichita residence from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. Wichita police say the Homicide Section investigates. Carpenter had served since 1998 and previously joined GC police in 1989. He was married with several children and praised for community duties. The memorial project in Lawrence repurposes the 140-year-old Murphy-Bromersick House, linked to Quantrill’s raid, to honor abolitionist history with a $180,000 raised so far and a July 29 fundraiser at the Eldridge Hotel.
