Lifetime Smiles program targets western Kansas dental gaps
The Lifetimes Smiles program run by United Methodist Mexican American Ministries in Garden City partners with Sandoval to cut childhood tooth decay. They stress prevention through brushing, flossing, bottle-weaning by age one, and proper nutrition while educating parents. In southwest Kansas 2800 children were screened last year with 7500 educational materials distributed, and Garden City has provided screenings for all second graders. Kansas lags nationally with an overall D grade for oral health access and dentist availability, highlighting the need for more preventive care and local dental programs.
