Nation's largest eastern cottonwood in Kansas damaged
The Cottonwood Tree Park tree near Ozawkie, once labeled the state's largest eastern cottonwood from 1980 to 2002, has suffered windstorm damage. A 40 foot trunk section fell, following last year's loss of about 14 feet in height, raising fears it may be near the end of its life. Kansas forester Jim Strine notes the tree's decline could erase its Champion Trees status.
