State taxes fall short of expectations again
TOPEKA AP State government collected 61 million dollars less than anticipated in the 2008 fiscal year a 1 percent shortfall that could strain budgets. Lower than expected individual income tax receipts and a forecasted 5.84 billion in general tax revenue contrasted with actual near 5.78 billion. Senate Ways and Means Chair Dwayne Umbarger warned of lean times as reserves dwindle to about half of the planned 120 million by June 30 2009.
