Wheatland Electric to Give 11 Percent Bill Break to Members
Wheatland Electric Cooperative passes an 11 percent wholesale power cost reduction to members starting with February bills. Sunflower Electric refinanced loans and cut costs, enabling the pass through. The savings total nearly 5 million dollars this year, with residential bills about 16.90 per month lower on a 150 monthly bill, and customers like Gooch’s Foods planning upgrades. The change is a wholesale cost reduction, not a rate change, and 100 percent of savings go to members.

Brownback links school funding to student performance proposal
Gov. Sam Brownback on Friday urged tying state school funding to outcomes, proposing interim block grants for two years while a new formula is drafted. He argued funding should reward performance, asking if students read at grade level and are ready for college or work, with penalties for underachievement. Critics warn the plan could worsen equity under court mandates. The debate centers on whether money should reflect student needs or performance incentives.
