Groundhog supper at church raises funds for scholarships
United Methodist Men and volunteers cook biscuits, sausage, gravy, pies, and more for 900 to 1,200 diners at the annual church groundhog supper. Doug, Russell, and Mark Whitley describe tasks from biscuit mixing to pie cutting as Junior Leadership Corps students help with doors. Meals run 4:30 to 8 p.m. with a takeout option and leftovers sold by the pound. Proceeds support scholarships and church needs.

Record temperatures bring warm January strolls in Forest Park
Residents enjoyed a sunny January day along Forest Park Lake Wildlife Habitat on West Emerson Avenue with dogs and neighbors noting the unseasonable warmth. Meteorologist Ray Burgert said Garden City and nearby towns broke high temperature records Tuesday, but a cold front will drop highs to the 50s on Thursday, with 40s and a chance of rain or snow Friday night and upper 30s on Saturday.
