Lawmakers push to keep CURB focused on lowering rates
House Bill 2500 by Rep. Jim Ward and Rep. Annie Kuether would bar CURB from changing its mission without legislative approval and lift a gag on the interim consumer counsel. The measure comes after board members suggested shifting CURB from rate hearings to opposing federal Clean Power Plan rules. CURB aims to represent residential and small business utility customers in state rate cases and at the Legislature.

Bill to bar discrimination against gun dealers in Kansas
In Kansas a Senate panel will consider SB 331 the Kansas Firearms Industry Nondiscrimination Act. It would outlaw discrimination against gun dealers and manufacturers refusing service ending a business relationship or any trade based solely on lawful firearm or ammunition activity. Senator Jacob LaTurner said the measure mirrors anti discrimination laws and cites Operation Choke Point as the rationale.
