Fire damages residence after car repair incident in Garden City
A Saturday fire during fuel pump replacement on a 1998 Chevy pickup at 4565 Commerce Drive left a residence extensively damaged. Garden City Fire Chief Allen Shelton said Russell Bennett, 29, was life-flighted to Via-Christi St. Francis Hospital Wichita in fair condition. Also Saturday evening a separate crash on Anderson Road near Railroad Avenue sent three adults and a teen to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment and release. Kyle Gabel, Cierra Stasser, Shamus Smith, and Tyler Powers were identified as involved. The accident occurred after Gabel failed to stop at a railroad intersection, forcing a collision in a nearby field. Later Kansas lottery results were reported from Topeka.
