Plan may stop furloughs in Kansas courts
In Topeka AP Kansas courts may keep extra days open and furlough workers if a bill adds 5 million dollars. Spokesman Ron Keefover said how many unpaid days could be avoided hinges on the funding. The Senate plans to debate the bill next week as the Supreme Court already has a plan to furlough nonjudge staff up to 30 days amid an 8 million dollar shortfall.

Kansas AG asks court to reject funding case reopening
Kansas Attorney General Steve Six urged the state Supreme Court to deny a bid by Schools for Fair Funding to reopen the 1999 Montoy school funding case. The districts argue periodic funding increases violated a 2006 ruling, while Six cites a 2005 law requiring notice and a three judge panel, saying the move seeks to bypass new procedures. Education funding has fallen with budget gaps, the districts claim worsened education quality.
