Former state senator Jim Allen dies at 68 in Topeka
Former Kansas legislator and lobbyist Jim Allen died Monday at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka at age 68. A dairy farmer near Ottawa, he served in the House starting 1978 and 13 years in the Senate including as Agriculture Committee chair. He left office in 1991 and ran Jim Allen and Associates with clients such as Seaboard Farms and the Kansas Association of Community College Trustees. Funeral set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Ottawa University Chapel.
