Judge rules Banda fit to stand trial in Garden City case

A Finney County judge ruled Garden City cannabis advocate Shona Banda mentally competent to stand trial on charges including endangering a child and drug distribution within 1000 feet of school property. Judge Wendel Worst set arraignment for April 7 at 9 am and trial dates for June 26 to 29 with pretrial motions due by March 3.

City backs scoring overhaul for downtown development fund

Garden City Commission approved a new scoring matrix for the Downtown Development Fund to stretch funding and better compare projects. The plan raises reimbursement options from 8 to as high as 50 percent based on score, aggregates eligible improvements, and imposes a two year reapplication ban after completion. Commissioner Janet Doll criticized the proposed scoring and urged returning it to staff for more work.
