Officials in Arizona weigh tougher penalties for sex crimes as lawmakers push a package of reforms. The proposals target sentencing enhancements, broadened definitions, and stronger enforcement to deter offenses and protect victims.

The court 6 3 ruled states may regulate medical treatment of the terminally ill and rejected federal efforts to block Oregon doctors who prescribe lethal drugs. The ruling could make Oregon’s 1994 landmark law a national model with several states considering similar actions.
