FCEDC lays out growth at annual meeting in Garden City

The FCEDC discussed plans to acquire about 50 acres at the southeast corner of Jennie Barker Road and U.S. 50 for a potential industrial site. The city and Finney County would repay a $1 million KDOT loan at 2 percent over 10 years, with KDOT providing a $500,000 grant for a $2.58 million railroad spur adjacent to the Bonanza ethanol plant. Plant owners would sell the site to the city or county for $1 once repayment completes, as prospects show growing interest. The board also set 2011 goals to secure long-term countywide funding and recruit 50 to 100 stakeholders to explore private funding options, while Sunflower Electric pursues an 895 MW coal plant expansion in Holcomb with KDHE permits already granted.
