A sequence of burglaries and thefts was logged from 6:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in several blocks including Cottontail Court and Talley Trail with losses totaling thousands. Goods stolen include firearms, televisions, an iPod, and electronics. several vehicle and credit card misuse incidents were also recorded along with several arrests and ongoing investigations.
Garden City police issued a crime alert seeking help locating Lewis Hinojosa, 25, believed to be with a trucking company and wanted for first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and first degree reckless endangerment in the July 2010 fatal shooting of Giovani Tirado in Racine Wisconsin. He is described as Hispanic, 5 foot 6, 225 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and a cross tattoo on his left arm. He is considered armed and dangerous. A Topeka jury found 44 year old Stephen A. Macomber guilty of second degree murder for the June 2010 killing of 26 year old Ryan K. Lofton. He faced first degree murder charges and is already serving 83 years for related crimes including wounding a Marshall County deputy and holding an elderly woman hostage during a police standoff. Sentencing is set for February 21.
