Bonnie Talley 77, Garden City's first female commissioner and four term mayor, died at Park West Plaza in Wichita. A trailblazer and advocate born April 12, 1928 in Cimarron, she served 16 years on the city commission from 1984 to 1999 including mayoral stints in 1984 1989 1992 and 1997. Dennis Mesa recalled her as a selfless community cheerleader and trailblazer whose impact includes the Talley Trail bicycle path dedicated in 1999.
Holcomb Middle School hosts Health Week activities with music and dancing as students use pedometers to track activity. Coca Cola sponsors the nationwide program offering a $5000 prize for the best school combining exercise and health education. Principal learned of it via a mailed information packet.
