Radon Testing Tips for Kansas Homes
Officials urge homeowners to test for radon, a second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. In Kansas about 200000 of 800000 homes may test positive, with 100000 showing elevated levels. In southwest Kansas 48 percent of 765 homes tested exceeded 4.0 on a 10 point scale. Tests cost five to thirty five dollars and best time to test is winter. A vent installation may reduce exposure and kits are sold at extension offices health departments or hardware stores.
